General Eye Care

1. How often should I get an eye exam?

Most adults should have an eye exam every 1–2 years. If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of glaucoma, or wear contact lenses, annual exams are recommended. Children should have their first eye exam at age 1, again at age 3, and before starting school — then annually through their school years.

2. Do you accept walk-ins or same-day appointments?

We offer same-day and emergency eye exams whenever possible. If you’re experiencing redness, pain, flashes, or sudden vision changes, call us right away.

3. What is included in a comprehensive eye exam at Visual Acuity Eyecare?

Our comprehensive eye exam includes a thorough evaluation of your vision and overall eye health. This includes visual acuity testing, refraction (determining your prescription), eye pressure testing (glaucoma screening), retinal evaluation, assessment of eye muscle function, and screening for common conditions like macular degeneration, cataracts, and diabetic eye disease. We use advanced diagnostic equipment including digital retinal imaging and optical coherence tomography (OCT).

4. Do you provide PD ( pupillary distance) measurements?

As an exam-only practice, our primary focus is on the comprehensive health and vision exam. PD measurements are typically provided by the optical retailer where you purchase your glasses, as they are measured specifically to fit your chosen frames. If you need a PD measurement, we recommend asking the optical shop where you plan to purchase your eyewear, as they have the tools to measure it accurately relative to your frames.

5. What should I bring to my eye exam?

You can book online at vacuityeyes.com or call our Fairfax location at (571) 470-0112. For the Target location, call (703) 794-5119. Online booking is available 24/7 for your convenience.
